That said, while of course in reality you can be expelled as long as enough fellow legislators vote for you to be expelled, as a procedural thing expulsion is usually supposed to be because you demonstrated unfitness due to your conduct while in office, not before your election

The GOP might refuse to let the expulsion go through, using that as the excuse (the real reason being Coleman taking up the seat of a blue district, with no Democrats being willing to work with him, weakens the Dems and is a major embarrassment for them)
