Okay, so in an effort to try to talk about fun things I binged What We Do In the Shadows recently, and this is a Hustle Dynasty appreciation thread

Guillermo killed like ten of them but there were still a bunch left when he fled the house I want them to be this new villain faction, there's just inexhaustible disco vampires hanging out in various safehouses and boltholes in Staten Island

Almost as good as the Hustle Dynasty was the whole thing with Nandor and Benjy's reunion, with the flashback montage showing us that Nandor also really got into '70s culture, which included simultaneously attending a hippie peace rally and also campaigning for Nixon/Agnew '72

Well, the more things change "What is better, antifa or alt-right, I am trying to decide"

I like the little hints about the vampires' personal histories, like it's pretty clear that Nandor was a much more socially active guy back in the '70s, he even traveled as far as Delaware just to find a place to abandon Benjy

And, like, the Staten Island vamps apparently had another burst of productivity in the '90s, that's when Nandor initially applied for US citizenship and they signed that pact with the werewolves and everything It seems like the Bush years sent them into a bit of a lull

I get the feeling that the tech explosion of the dotcom era was legitimately a big challenge for them, the Internet and cell phones were a whole new thing to have to adapt to and they balked at it and their brains just froze up in response

E.g. Nandor apparently created a Hotmail account back in the early 2000s and hasn't checked it at all since then

But anyway The Hustle Dynasty, ha ha holy shit There's something sublimely terrifying about the sheer surreality of them suddenly blasting "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes as they begin to torture the humans to death

You get the feeling the hunters were mentally prepared for being tortured to death to the tune of elegant classical music or to some angry thrash metal soundtrack but not to die like this

I was sitting here trying to think of what other obsolete musical genres you could build a vampire shtick around and then I was like "'90s hip-hop! A vampiric version of Coach Z!" and then I remembered Count Rapula is already a character on the show
