To denounce means to publicly declare that someone or something is evil or to inform against someone. So it’s what the Stasi did as well as the Thought Police in Orwell. This is not normal in a non-totalitarian state.

Criticism is healthy but when OJ or someone else denounces someone or something, you have to ask who appointed them judge and jury? Some people have more power than others, and they need to be held accountable for abusing it. Who did Orwell denounce as opposed to criticise?
