The worst possible thing that could've happened to Alex Morse's side of the debate would be getting associated with someone else being "smeared" who was clearly guilty and also a terrible person and a grifter Which the Intercept did entirely of their own volitionhttps://twitter.com/ryangrim/status/1301193698349387776 …

Did you ever ask Alex Morse how he felt about the phrase "Alex Morse and Aaron Coleman" popping up everywhere online right before the election If I were him I wouldn't be very happy about it

Also, the original story might have passed pretty quickly if the Intercept didn't go all in on the multi-part conspiracy theory, which didn't help Neal itself, but sure helped run out the clock.

The Interceptors are extremely sore winners and it's terrible strategy When people were generally coming around to the idea the charges against Morse were overblown that was the time to go "Let's leave this behind and focus on the issues" Glenn is incapable of doing this

He HAD to ride that high into demanding a groveling apology from everyone who disagreed with him and to pushing a narrative that every story was gonna turn out this way and he was gonna uncover the DNC conspiracy and end it once and for all

Which meant he was incapable of letting the Aaron Coleman story go instead of desperately pursuing it until it blew up in his face At which point THEN he was suddenly all in favor of letting scandals go and just letting the voters decide
