Clearly FdB was never a biology student because all the 100 science classes are weeders, not usually for PhDs, for med school. It has such a distorting effect of teaching and coursework.

it strikes me that the pedagogical approach of almost every humanities course i ever took was to try and meet the student where they're at and go from there

It was wild to Ben in an elementary education program where the philosophy isn’t “if a kid fails, that means YOU failed to teach them” and then Ben friends without science majors where failing is the norm, and then they scale things so the exact number they want can pass.
