It's hard to exactly quantify the differences in cities. I came out in Seattle, then moved down to Portland--I'd say neither is better overall, just a bit different.

Similarly, the only thing keeping Oregon from drowning in a red tide is the simple fact that there are more people living in the city of Portland than in the entire rest of the state combined. And the rest of the state hates us for it. They deeply, viciously resent it.

I'm from one of the college towns (Corvallis), and with those there's a lot of blue in the Willamette Valley too. A key right now is that Portland's growth only recently pushed OR from purple to solid blue, so trumpy Oregon is extra pissed off having just lost the culture war.
