Narrating your life is different from playing you

If it's the Morgan Freeman model of narration it means she plays someone in your life you had a major impact on

Isn't it the other way around? Again going off of Shawshank Redemption I don't think Andy was as influential on Ellis as vice versa

From Ellis' POV the story is about how Andy gave him renewed hope that life on the outside was worth living

Ah, yeah, I suppose so. I guess bc I saw the movie after it had been extensively critiqued for the trope where the Black person spiritually inspires a white guy, I didn't really notice it going the other direction

No in Shawshank Redemption Andy does a lot more to inspire Ellis than vice versa, it's an inversion of the "Magic Negro" trope The same is true of the similar setup they have in Million Dollar Baby

Doesn't that mean that Morgan Freeman played in an inversion of the trope prior to becoming its official face (with that movie about the dude who becomes God for a day)?

Yeah, although I would say it's still the same thing in that the story is actually about the white guy
