Okay. It took me a month of procrastination, but new to my Patreon, a very long deep dive into "The Theater", a very terrible 2010 example of the "creepy video game ekphrasis" creepypasta genre. Also, if someone says to you that something doesn't exist, then you have heard of it?? The first and third sentences are incongruous! I just... Blech.

Yes, it's badly phrased, what they mean is "Very few people have heard of it, to the point where those who have think it must not actually exist"

That itself is a huge cliché but at least it's a logically consistent cliché

Anyway just looking at it it feels like this is shooting fish in a barrel, like if this were an MMO this piece of fiction's name would appear grayed out in the interface and dunking on it would provide no XP

I had a much more intelligent critique of ESCAPE FROM MERRYWOOD but my voters demanded I just dunk on Slender Man for some crazy amount of words

But I mean the thing about this is I didn't pick it out of a hat This story was part of a MASTERPOST of recommended creepypasta on the Something Awful forums, from people who are extremely particular about their flimsy suspensions of disbelief And their taste is usually good

I guess maybe if it's really old and is grandfathered in as something that introduced people to the basic concept of a creepypasta, like at the time people actually tried to confirm whether this game existed Kind of like SCP-172
