I mean... these questions don't necessarily show that she's really approached the topic in good faith But they aren't bad questions Lockhart's Lament mentions that he thinks History of Mathematics should be much more integral to the subject, like art history is to arthttps://twitter.com/KEBrightbill/status/1298748464910815233 …

The story about the guy who originally proved sqrt 2 was irrational being executed for blasphemy should be more widely known

I just looked this up (guy's name was Hippasus) and apparently it's unclear whether it was for the irrational thing or something about constructing a dodecahedron, and whether he was executed or drowned accidently (which was then attributed to punishment by the gods)

In the original play version of Spring Awakening, the last conversation Moritz has before he kills himself has him tell Ilse he needs to go because he needs to study for a math test

Months after his death she's been telling people the "secret reason for his death" and whispering "It was the... 'dodecahedron'" A very esoteric joke on Frank Wedekind's part

(The joke is partly a dunk on her by the author for being a silly girl with no education, which is also why she's supposed to be such an attractive femme fatale for Moritz The play was both a great deal more interesting and more problematic than the musical)
