Absolutely, I didn't consider the tipping aspect. It's not quite as bad where I live, but sure, waitstaff would be underpaid without tips.

Yeah but there's still cooks, hosts, dishwashers and managers to pay every shift plus all the bookkeepers, exterminators, inspectors, etc. hired less frequently, not to mention rent and utilities. If prices were accurate they would go UP because of servers' tips, not down.

I worked at a tiny upscale place with no host where servers doubled as dishwashers and head chef was also manager/owner. He showed me his math on flipping a table including candles, tablecloth cleaning etc., and per table the house cut was still less than what people tip.
