Arthur Chu Retweeted Amelia Bloody Rose

Yeah canon Mycroft was obviously a sexist (if a passive one) and while canon Sherlock was much more perceptive than a typical man of his class - and solved several mysteries because of it - he had his own obvious limitations, as the Irene Adler affair demonstratedhttps://twitter.com/AmeliaRoseWrite/status/1298419673466171392 …

The movie looks like a romp; the books were a really fun dive into what sorts of blind spots the Brothers Holmes might have. Enola weaponizes all that "female nonsense" that her brothers dismiss as frivolous--flower language, fan language, even corsets https://twitter.com/AmeliaRoseWrite/status/1298354927161372673?s=20 …

(BBC Sherlock trying to make him into a proto-feminist was unbelievably cringey and the Enola Holmes concept sounds like a much better way to approach this topic)

Irene was done so dirty in BBC Sherlock.

Irene is done dirty in virtually every adaptation. She always has to fancy Sherlock. She always has to be an object of sexual interest for our hero. When she was nothing of the kind in the original.

Well, I mean, it's tough because the thing that made her such a strong character in her original story is her life barely intersected with Sherlock's, she wasn't part of all his nonsense

Apparently the twist about Elementary's Irene Adler is pretty cool though

It is. Won't spoil it here but it is definitely second best in depiction, when that happens.

Yes, I had completely forgotten about that. I agree, it was pretty cool. But Elementary always did have significantly more respect for women than other Holmes adaptations.
