It would be interesting if critics ever made moral stands boycotting or intensely criticizing media that is doing something bad a lot of other media is too when that media DIDN'T also specifically feature a prominent lesbian relationship This is a pattern, you guyshttps://twitter.com/AADowd/status/1298288361556369408 …

Uhhhh before you continue the important context here is that New Mutant’s queer rep is not widely known (hidden from marketing) and Disney did not hold a social distanced/digital critic screenings for this publication, why should they put themselves at risk of COVID-19 for a film

I'm saying why is it this film where they want to make a stand, loudly and publicly, when the queer rep is now known? They could just quietly not review it

1) Queer rep isn’t widely known. 2) Because this is America’s *FIRST* major studio film to release without the studio directly offering COVID-19 precautions to publications during the pandemic??

It doesn't look good that they draw the line at not being offered a chance to safely watch it THEMSELVES but have reviewed films where they got to watch it online but the general public has to go to theaters though

I mean they address this in the article - "We think it's fair to warn our readers that we don't think it's safe but they have the right to take their own chances, but we can't ask that of our actual employees" Not fully convinced of that logic but okay

That said I think Ellie's anger is misplaced here The studio are the ones who know that this movie contains queer rep and how important that is etc and who fucked this movie over first by delaying its initial release date, now by releasing it only into theaters

The article even points out that under normal circumstances sending critics a digital screener link is normal, and when a movie doesn't give any special access to critics at all it's usually a sign the studio has no faith in it
