But yeah all of that history is drenched in layers of bullshit Historically significant bullshit, sure, but still bullshit The "boxing" the Boxer Rebellion built their ideology around was, I mean, a real thing they learned but it didn't work as advertised

But the... qin emperor... did not???

The article in question makes this whole argument about how even though Qin Shi Huang was no leftist, his authoritarian state was in fact a necessary progression in the dialectic of history as preached by Marx, to move forward from feudalism into a more liberated era

In a way the reason the article was worth talking about isn't so much that it's surprising a Maoist would hate Confucius -- he was a sexist jerk who said that social lessers should obey their betters etc. -- but that they would have so much passion for it
-
And that they'd elevate Qin Shi Huang in the process It's like going out of your way as a Western Marxist to say "Cicero sucked actually" and then pick some bad guy from history to elevate -- "You know, Augustus Caesar, who killed him, was actually Woke"

What about all the filial piety stuff

I know it's kind of hard to square with how China is today, but at the height of the Cultural Revolution the word "feudal" was basically a swear word, it's like how lefists today say "fash"
