Okay, counterpoint: The Flintstones has always just sucked and nobody actually cares about the franchise, they just think they dohttps://twitter.com/BenGSchout/status/1298036631648182272 …

If the CW announced a gritty reboot of the Flintstones before the Mark Russell Comic people would be having the exact same reaction to it that they're having to the PPG reboot pic.twitter.com/s50IPlwJ4d

I'm always willing to say that pretty much everything Hanna Barbera did was, if not terrible, then at least of less than mediocre quality.

While I agree, it's important to remember how limited made for TV animation was back then.

Man I guess I don't really have a bone to pick because I didn't have to suffer through the seventies but there's something so absolutely bitter about the fact that Japan was making Space Battleship Yamato and we were making fucking Hong Kong Phooey (no offense to Scatman)

I do think about how easy it is for an anime to become a huge hit in America if it's a "love letter to American culture" even if it's not actually very good A lot of Speed Racer fans didn't even know it was an anime

America, as a country, is like the locally famous celebrity who ALWAYS falls for it when someone butters him up mentioning the cool stuff he's done no matter how much he swears he hates it

TBH this is probably one reason Cowboy Bebop is much more popular in America than it is in Japan. Again, not that it's a bad show but it's *way* more popular here than there.
