I think "the world is nice as-is and you should shut up about it" is a fully different premise than "the world is tough and often shitty but some people still figure out a way of not being assholes in it". The problem is, goody-good superheroes are often written both ways.

The PR "friendly neighborhood superhero" stuff is necessary to defray a small probability of a future timeline where the world decides he's a threat and declares war on him, hampering his ability to save people and costing X future lives

Unlike more modern portrayals of Clark Kent, Samaritan has the Golden Age Superman motive of actually using the secret identity to gather intel and spend all his downtime planning and strategizing He hasn't had an actual break in years

And then so many people did the whole "what if he's secretly a dick but has a PR team". The Tick did it last year. Seriously, second hand takes on "what if Superman wasn't a great dude" are a dime a dozen and I'm so tired of them.

The Tick, himself, is a character I've seen described as "the distilled essence of Golden Age Superman" and I think a reminder that a lot of this annoying stuff comes from Silver Age escalation until he was basically Jesus
