I don’t think this is true

The fantasy of Superman is specifically “someone who has no reason to be a good person is”, that might not be resonant for you in particular but it is for plenty of people

I mean, does anyone have a "reason" to be a "good person"? What even is a good person? The fact that we can answer that easily for Superman is the only reason that's even a coherent thing. Most of us have massive tradeoffs

If I invest emotional energy to help one stranger, I may or may not benefit them, and there's another stranger I won't be helping in that time, and I will be drained and unable to help other people later Superman, quite simply, can help all of them and be fine

Superman also is completely removed from the whatever suffering and consequence regular people face, both by being literally impervious to harm and also being an apparently straight white dude from the Midwest with a great job

He would be absolutely fine doing absolutely nothing to help anyone because he needs no one else’s help. I think Arthur a while back himself pointed out how his being white is part of the metaphor of “uses power he has purely by accident for good”

I guess leaving all the morality aside I just don't see what's interesting about a story about a guy who is basically God, except when he's around a particular mineral, at which point he is like a sick person. Like what about that is exciting or relatable or anything?

The concept of Kryptonite wasn't from the comics, it was invented by the Superman radio show, so that when his VA was out sick his part of the story could just be someone else making unrecognizable groaning and mumbling noises

(The story that this is the REASON Kryptonite was invented is disputed, since they actually introduce the idea of a meteorite from his homeworld well before they introduced him getting incapacitated by being near it)

(Siegel and Shuster had in fact already written a story earlier with the idea that a meteor from Krypton could take Superman's power away and give it to humans It was rejected by editors because the main plot was Lois getting powers, which they thought was too feminist for them)
