This filmed at my high school the summer me + several nerds had to do PE summer school to make room for a Speech & Debate class period. Production painted our lockers red overnight in a low-budge spray that destroyed my favorite Quicksilver shorts and Vans. They’re the villains.https://twitter.com/Variety/status/1297194316339830785 …

When Take The Lead was filmed at my high school they were much more careful about how they painted their "NYC inner city school stage grime" on the walls and only painted the outer doors red. Considerate but got me concerned about income inequality in NYC where I now live.

I heard anecdotally that they had to ship the metal detector in from Buffalo, NY because none of the Canadian schools had metal detectors at their entrances because why would they.

During the week the metal detector was kept under a tarp off to the side, presumably as to not alarm any students.

The idea of turning some middle class Canadian school into a stereotypical "inner-city" high school is amazing

Worse than a middle class school, it was a fancy competitive entrance exam school akin to Stuy, but with a substantial tuition since budget cuts in the 90s. There were two Black students in the entire school of ~625 my senior year, and they were sisters.

The plot of the movie was about a dance teacher who teaches "life skills" to "troubled" youth in detention through the power of dance I don't think we even had the concept of detention
