Sometimes the best a parent can do is to provide education on the risks and promise to be there if something goes wrong. At the end of the day, the only person responsible for Coleman’s actions is ... Coleman. Not his parents. Not his victims or their parents.

So we're going to give all the parents a pass here, we're not going to ask why a 13-year-old had nude pictures of herself online, we're not going to ask how a 12 year old was able to hack into her account without anyone at all noticing? You don't see a problem with any of that?

And you know what, sure, maybe the parents didn’t pay as much attention as they should have. Maybe they should have known or intervened sooner. But not knowing what your kids are up to is not a crime. Harassing a teenage girl and spreading child revenge porn are crimes.

We'll have to agree to disagree about whether a teenage girls' parents are responsible or not for at least trying to keep her safe online from predators. As for the perp, he should be in therapy or jail, or both.

So you think that parents should “protect” their child by ... spying on her and forbidding her from engaging in her own sexuality? Plus, we have literally *no idea* what her parents did or didn’t do. For all we know they had every child proofing app known to man installed.

The legal age of consent in Kansas is 16. It's like that because minors trust people they shouldn't, like teenage boys who hand their photos out to their friends! At the VERY least, parents have an obligation to file charges when someone harms their child!

Like I said, KS does not file criminal charges against people 14 or younger, and Coleman was 12

He may have been disciplined in juvenile court; we wouldn't know because those records are sealed once you turn 18, and honestly none of that is our business (It seems like something like that may have happened, he left high school early for unspecified reasons and got his GED)

Anyway focusing the talk on what the victim's family did or didn't do is derailing, as is focusing on the criminal justice system

I get that you want to never have to deal with things like this as a voter or a citizen because some authority handles it all when it happens We don't have that luxury The fact is he's running for office and his victims have spoken up in protest, that's the important thing
