The very fact that you felt free to make some shit up here instead of filling in the actual details -- "I blackmailed nudes from a girl and almost drove another girl to suicide" -- is extremely fucking telling

I don't know what that's supposed to mean Do you genuinely think that being poor means that your actions get graded on a curve? If you actually think being poor is the cause of becoming an abuser, that sucks, but it doesn't speak to whether or not you ARE an abuser

I get the sense that people are saying "If you're a rich comfortable person and you're evil, that just means your soul is inherently evil But if you're evil because of poverty and trauma, all we have to do is give you money, and the evil goes away" Which is a bullshit worldview

And those deleterious effects don't magically vanish when the trauma goes away, do they You gotta commit to what you're saying here, man If you actually believe poverty makes people evil and dangerous that's not an argument for giving evil and dangerous people power

That's why I personally think it's extremely dicey to go around making facile, simplistic statements that abusive behavior is caused by trauma It's not true that traumatized people universally or even mostly react by becoming abusive people themselves

And it's important to be clear on that, because abusive people ARE DANGEROUS and it doesn't matter WHY they became dangerous -- you have the right and the responsibility to keep yourself safe from them regardless
