there's a reason i emphasize that real apologies begin with a clear, public statement of the wrong that was done. it sounds like a low bar, but there's a reason so many shitty apologies trip over it. it's *hard* to just say you fucked up out loud without trying to make excuses.

and for many victims this is among the most important parts--for it to become public knowledge *that they are victims,* for there to be no longer any dispute about what was done to them--to confirm that they were right all along. and he won't do it.
