I guess I'm just saying apocalypse narratives make me nervous bc of *gestures at world* and the reason TLOU works for me, is that it's NOT about saving the world, even if the abstract point is it should be, the effect is emphasizing individual survival

Stellaris has an interesting take on it in that you can lose/gain population through immigration flows, but it's really the only game strategy game I can think of that gives the population that level of existence.
