Enh It is very much part of TLoU's style that it's not an open world sandbox game and that you only take control of the characters while they are running, hiding or fighting for their lives It's kind of the whole point

Yeah, and like Even if we allow for the part where humanity is entering a new Dark Age - which is my more optimistic read but I think has support - most human beings *do not want to die*, and do not *really* want to kill that much. Combats would be usually inconclusive.

You'd expect most skirmishes to end with one side retreating or surrendering, not *pitched battles of mutual annihilation* to a degree that even modern soldiers hesitate to engage in.

The part where Jordan gets it is kind of amusing bc it feels like he could have become the new Most Powerful Murderer if Ellie hadn't gotten it back right away

I mean, originally this was just an effort to not make Joel overpowered by letting him stab Infected instantly but instead require him to break their necks, but then they decided to make Ellie playable in 1 and she obviously couldn't do that it was just a balance thing
