fun hypothetical: what if Commander D'ancy (the lesbian in RoS who kisses her wife and also points at a thing once)'s wife had died, as a result of being a pilot in Star Wars, the absolute riskiest profession in the Galaxy, so they never kissed, so we never knew they were married

If a lesbian gets killed off to motivate her wife but the wife is too minor a character to notice, does the tree make a sound

My answer is it's a trick question, it's BYG even though Commodore D'ancy's too minor for me to remember her name character wife is shown alive at the end of the known Star Wars timeline. Making any gay person not named Skywalker or Antilles a pilot is just automatically BYG

does Sabine get an exemption because we never learn more about that immensely queer-coded relationship she had with Ketsu

      I didn't primarily classify her as a "pilot". She's a bounty hunter/Mandalorian war criminal/lightsaber apprentice

So a gay character can fly a fighter, so long as it's not what they primarily do (which is fair, I guess).

I'm just going off of the observed causality rates I also don't oppose BYG ever happening, so. But it seems a waste to waste one's tolerance for killing off gay characters by making them a pilot. You could at least have them be a bridge crew instead :P

This is the joke about the extremely cheap way to include gay characters, isn't it You get the Mr. Exposition bridge crew guy blown up and then retroactively reveal he was gay the whole time

Right, like if Holdo pulled out a holo of some person in TLJ and was like "now that you're demoted, Poe, you'll have time to find this guy and tell him why his husband Frank the B-Wing gunner is dead!"
