Of course I know that in practice the USA is treated by many people as a white ethnostate even though it's not supposed to be, and it's only over time that people with Italian, Irish, Spanish, etc surnames get folded into "real Americanness" What I am saying is this is bullshit

Okay I am drunkenly fully aware I’m just asking a silly what if question, but if a Native American were to have a surname today, that’s derived from their culture, would that be considered an “American” name? I don’t know if that actually exists, but if it does, neat.

Sure. Almost all Native Americans are American citizens by birth, and their names would be American ones.
