So re: name discourse, I should say that I do in fact have a "Chinese name" that is, in the most technical sense, my "real birth name" (as in I had it before my parents decided on what my name in English would be) And I don't want people to use it

Anyway nowadays I would probably prefer to identify as Taiwanese if we want to get into it but that's a whole other thing

There's been pretty violent anti-Chinese sentiments in SE Asia for abt the last 100yr. Some things Thailand did in retweet, but other SEA nations did other, sometimes worse, things.
