I have been thinking about how my appreciation for cars in movies is even more ironic than my appreciation for guns in movies Like irl I just do not have a gun and don't interact with guns, which is different from my relationship with driving, a part of my life I actively hate

Neither and both? The culture that Miller had experienced doesn't really exist anymore purely because cars are no longer huge V8 engines bolted to some steel bars with 4 wheels on them.

There is still a car culture, but Fast and the Furious and import cars changed it a LOT. Road fatalities have dropped every year since 1970 I think? But that's got less to do with culture and more with breaks no longer being bits of metal that bite into other bits of metal
