(Calling her by her maiden name is also disrespectful of her choices, of course After her marriage she consistently referred to herself as "Marian Evans Lewes" in daily life You can disagree with that choice too, it doesn't give you the right to undo it)

I don’t know that calling **her george Eliot—as opposed to crediting *the author* as george Eliot—is respectful of her choices, Arthur. She went by Marian in personal correspondence. (Eg Richard Bachmann is the author of a lot of books, but the man is still Stephen King)
