I mean, the rise of the Internet has been, for the most part, riding on the global economic boom we've had coming out of the '80s For all the hiccups we've had since then (including the big one in '09) we haven't seen the "digital economy" withstand a Great Depression event

We're kind of spoiled, with this ongoing assumption that bandwidth and storage just keeps getting cheaper and cheaper and cheaper over time -- Google confidently talking about more and more stuff getting "too cheap to meter" over time, throwing more and more shit onto the "cloud"

I still don't actually think COVID-19 is likely to lead to a serious economic apocalypse where lights start going out worldwide But it looks a lot more *possible* than it did a while ago, especially if international relations break down and war looms on the horizon
