electronically never had proper securities put in place and instead of investing in a security team, they insisted it was fine, several elections straight up failed because of it, and the general opinion is that it's needlessly dangerous

entire fleets of voting machines have been left connected to the internet, they generally (don't quote me, there's lots of different voting software) run windows XP, have physical 'debug' ports and people have shown how to remove the storage from some models. it's worse than bad.

so many things run xp with unsigned updates that i can comfortably advise you to be very careful using any atm in the us. as well as gambling machines, and medical devices

I mean, I think OP is talking about voting *online* from your own computer (e-voting machines at the polling place don't mitigate anything about coronavirus, which is the reason for mail-in ballots being such a big deal this year in the first place)

And that opens up massive security risks at every single step along the process, like everything that's a problem about the e-voting machines we have is multiplied a thousandfold and impossible to solve if you open up online voting from your own device
