Britain is particularly weird in this respect because we sometimes have a Deputy PM and sometimes we don't. (The Labour Party has a post of Deputy Leader, the Conservative Party doesn't.)

And IIRC Labour is the party that's taken the most steps to make its leadership contests more democratic right

I mean look it's mostly that having term limits on the presidency is already, when you think about it, a "restriction on democracy" and one people obviously look for a loophole to get around The people who would've voted for Obama for a 3rd term openly looking for a surrogate
