Honestly as a New Yorker I think I'm just gonna go La Riva/Peltier. If you're not in a sapphire state obviously don't follow my example but nah I'm not signing off on Rapist Cop-Lover/TERFcop 2020

I live in California and it’s always hilarious to me when people say ”you need to vote for Biden (Hillary) or the fascists win!” When it comes to the president, I might as well live in Canada for all the good my vote does.

My opinion used to be that you should always vote blue no matter the color of your state because in case the electoral votes don't come through at least you have an overwhelming popular vote count to undercut the legitimacy of the Republican president and the electoral college

Then we started nominating septuagenarian rapists who think millennials aren't grateful enough and have it great and I was like okay I guess some sacrifices have to be made

I sincerely don't understand how being a Libertarian in the American sense of the word is materially different from being a Republican.

Materially, it isn't There used to be a time when self-styled libertarians strongly opposed conservatives on "social issues", including some of them even being outspokenly pro-choice But that's mostly gone now

There was even a thing I saw a few years ago with one libertarian guy saying that there was no honest way a libertarian could support immigration restrictions while still being true to their principles, and that the GOP becoming the anti-immigration party was a test They failed

Part of it is just that the "social issues" that affect them haven't really been in play for a while Most of them aren't actually afraid of losing access to birth control, or abortion, or porn, even though they ought to be

Even on their own absurdly narrow pet issue, weed legalization, they're able to spin themselves into circles arguing the Democrats and Republicans are no different on the issue because honestly where they live this issue doesn't actually affect them either

In my first election back in 1994, I voted for the Libertarian candidate for Arizona governor. I saw him a radio that was being broadcast on TV because the tv station was between networks and needed something to fill the time.

To 17 year old me, fresh out of high school, he seemed pretty cool. He was for the legalization of all drugs and sex work and honestly felt like the free market would do a better job of regulating things than “the government” And I fell for it
