that said, if i were playing hardspace: shipbreaker with the debug salvage gun that just insta-salvages whatever you point it at i would not exactly be getting the hardspace: shipbreaker experience

what i mean is, i have some sympathy with arthur's point. some games really are defined by their mechanics; take those out and you've got a different game, or no game at all. but then if we're taking Cinematic Story games that's a different ball of wax

Yeah honestly if it's a single player game letting the player get in there and mod anything they want should be normalized

I find single-player only games that are overly precious about what constitutes “cheating” or “abuse” of the mechanics to be obnoxious (see that thing

Anyway darksouls is a game with nearly limitless mechanical depth so I don’t see any reason why they COULDNT have included more options to locally determine difficulty

Also with the frequency with which games tend to be indulgent power fantasies, it’s interesting how many games _undermine_ their explicit themes with harder difficulty settings.

The original Crysis tells a completely different story on the hardest difficulty setting, one about the failure of no-bid defense contracts and the American military industrial complex obsession with technology as a method of self-justification

Wait are you serious? I've heard of games locking the endings to Normal Mode and higher but does Crysis /actually/ have a diffrent plot if you're playing on Hard?

No it was me pointing out how easily elite US special forces troops wearing super science power armor dies to random North Korean conscripts on the hardest setting

I did like that Arkham City gave little poetic descriptions of what kind of game it was for each difficulty setting and the Easy mode is the one that sounds the most like a Frank Miller jerkoff Batman story
