and just in general, game's writing needs a LOT more terms to describe stuff. We've basically exhausted all the loan words from movies/books criticism

Ok, but it's not fair when games catch on that I literally can't play because they're too difficult for my brain to master, on purpose And then people who like those games come for the games I do enjoy on ideological grounds

It's a hard conversation because I do think that kind of brain remapping is itself a legitimate form of artistic expression and unique and valuable experience It just shouldn't be sold as the only valid way to "enjoy gaming"

Managing the experience of learning and mastering a game is a specific part of game design. It's almost unique to games design (tho similar ideas pop up sometimes in literature). Experimenting with these elements will lead to some inaccessible games, unfortunate but inevitable.

Naw. If your game can't be accessible, or doesn't at least try, it doesn't deserve to exist. No different from a business or a building

Businesses and buildings are allowed to be inaccessible if the inaccessibility is intrinsic to the purpose of the business Like, it's fundamentally unsafe to go shooting at a range if you don't meet a baseline of visual acuity, that doesn't mean shooting ranges are illegal

Right, but is "not having a map" and "making levels like mazes" intrinsic to a game about being a Jedi? If so, why? That makes very little sense to me

its not intrinsic but its also not incompatible? Like, if the jedi is out hunting for old relics? Makes total sense.

Is that worth denying passionate SW fans like me the chance to experience the story? Especially if you can leave in the option to play without a map?

But anyway I don't think of Fallen Order as a sign of trends in gaming, it's the opposite Everyone calls it a retro game

I misspoke a bit: it doesn't tell you how to navigate the map, or what things like walls can be targeted with powers
