Games that get way too much credit for cleverness and crowd out those that actually aim to entertain? Games that are intentionally inaccessible to neuroatypical and disabled people?https://twitter.com/Plutoburns/status/1293698488795103239 …

not even the average fan of dark souls wants all games to be dark souls.

Playing TLOU2, I was struck by just how much we’re conditioned by mainstream game design, too. We internalize specific ideas and concepts. Of COURSE there’s going to be something valuable hidden in the dead end you don’t have to explore, etc.

I mean yes, because it's fun to feel like you've discovered something! We "internalize concepts" that happen to make for fun gameplay

Managing the experience of learning and mastering a game is a specific part of game design. It's almost unique to games design (tho similar ideas pop up sometimes in literature). Experimenting with these elements will lead to some inaccessible games, unfortunate but inevitable.

Naw. If your game can't be accessible, or doesn't at least try, it doesn't deserve to exist. No different from a business or a building
