Sure. I'm just saying, the fact that there is no evidence either of them pulled a TLOU2 type crusade into the interior of Austin to dispatch the guy who ordered Sarah killed indicates Joel is not innately vengeful, and literally nothing about his character deals w vengeance

Like "survival" is Joel's thing. The revenge theme of 2 is NEW. I think it's VERY clear Joel cannot survive without Ellie at the end, which is why he makes the choice he does. If she were dead I think he would probably still attack, yes, but he'd die quickly and on purpose

(it interestingly occurs to me that the final level of TLOU has the same morality as the Matrix final battle: the enemy wants our friend's brain, and rather than sacrifice him for the greater good, we're going to do an Uncomfortable White Man Shooting Spree)

Only The Matrix doesn't give us any sense of moral ambiguity here, even though the movie has clearly established all the guards mown down in the lobby scene are ignorant humans

I mean, doesn't simply pointing out that they're humans who don't know anything do that?

That scene was separated from this one by a long period of time, and I haven't seen anyone say they actually felt bad for the humans in this scene or that Neo and Trinity have crossed any kind of moral line

My dad was really disgusted by it. He still loved the movie but he hated that they killed "innocent" (armed):guys

Yeah the bluepill cops and security guards disappear from the sequels almost completely

Yup. And the Ws seem to have tried to retcon them into programs which tbh... is bad in both directions? That's like the logic you use to get violence into a cartoon. The movies make it clear programs are equally human morally, they spent time on this in the sequels

I mean, if they read the newspaper and shout "holy shit" they pretty clearly are sentient beings If they didn't even get to choose not to be cops, if they were literally assigned cop at birth, that's WORSE

I'd like to see a Matrix fanfic about a trans woman who becomes a security guard for a building that gets attacked by the rebels And experiences being possessed by an Agent

(in seriousness, my pitch for a new standalone Matrix game has always been that you play a female security guard who is possessed by an Agent while fighting rebels and awoken as a result, revealing that you are this Matrix iteration's One)
