He's still feverish and has bouts of delirium and does, in fact, end up turning on her and killing her in a fit of paranoia We don't know if this is actually the Cordyceps or the result of the many other factors damaging his physical and mental health

And in that struggle the wound from his amputation reopened, leading to him bleeding out shortly after, meaning the question of whether it cured him remains unresolved by his death (too late to examine the corpse now too because he's a skeleton)

I feel like, given how much time and energy Jerry is stated to have sunk into this project before giving up on it and then suddenly having his faith rekindled by Ellie, this has got to be something they tried and found unviable one way or another

Admittedly, cordyceps scientists are kinda weird and actually do like to dissect brains. Like I was reading an article on the current state of ant cordyceps research and the latest big study literally involved melting ant brains to expose brain soup to different strains

Well yeah the whole way rl Cordyceps works is it's straight up replacing a brain with a computer made of fungus

Apparently not, that's what the study found. I guess the cordyceps mainly stays in the bone around the brain and because ant brains are so simple, it just kinda... makes them do stuff from there. It doesn't seem to infect the brain

On the other hand, it's not even the only mind control fungus out there! There's one that infects only male cicadas and makes then want to fck each other!

the screwfly solution still gives me nightmares occasionally

If the Solution *just* made people gay it would be a much less traumatic way to get the birthrate down dramatically within one generation without all the terror and suffering But since when does an exterminator really care about humane pest control

what gets under my skin isn't the alien-extermination aspect, but the nightmare of gender everyone acts like this is a natural and understandable extension of extant gender relations "we have to hear these Cult of Man cultists out, if we didn't we would be intolerant"
