I feel like, given how much time and energy Jerry is stated to have sunk into this project before giving up on it and then suddenly having his faith rekindled by Ellie, this has got to be something they tried and found unviable one way or another

Admittedly, cordyceps scientists are kinda weird and actually do like to dissect brains. Like I was reading an article on the current state of ant cordyceps research and the latest big study literally involved melting ant brains to expose brain soup to different strains
