There is no form of bigotry that doesn't see its own prejudices this way ("I am nervous around Muslims as a hard lesson I learned after 9/11") and that hasn't made this exact argument to justify prejudiced behaviors and policies and even wars

This is a Fox News-level argument, a pure and easily universalized appeal to bigotry as correct "This new way of thinking is hard and makes my brain hurt, the old way of thinking was so easy by comparison, you must be doing this to me to trick me"
