Maybe it makes some sense... for a fanfic writer putting in time and making no money. But unless you're going to volunteer as a cheering squad for all the cashiers and secretaries you run into, you don't get that at your job.

Even for a fanfic writer the most you can say is that "dunking on this nobody publicly when you're more famous than they are is punching down and it's mean" I still don't have to do anything with a bad fic but ignore it

Yep. There are a variety of people who can be hired to help a writer improve their book. If a pay for a book, I don't somehow start owing labor. If my review is, "I hate this book," and literally nothing else, that's fine.
