Yeah. I mean, before 2016 or so, it wouldn't have been treated as a big deal. Like Harvey Weinstein surviving for so long, and actresses sleeping with directors was treated like the actresses were doing something wrong.

I'd argue this was doubly true for gay men being abused by other gay men though Like the fact that the Moral Majority wanted to burn all gay people just for being gay at all meant that people were even less inclined to parse issues of consent in those contexts

Yeah I mean this is sort of a weird test case where you "have to hand it" to thinking patterns that can lead to puritanism. I would maintain that this is consistent with my view of a more just and equitable society, but I get why it might not seem like that

I'm not the sort of person who inherently thinks an age gap between adults, in isolation, is a reason they shouldn't be having sex or in a relationship. I think that discourse has gotten extreme. What I think gets ignored is gaps of finance and power.

Which, interestingly, sometimes run in the traditional way in LGBT circles, as is the case here, and sometimes not (I know so many trans women who dated succesful software developers who were also trans women and we're abused bc of financial leverage. Age isn't the issue there)

But, in this case we've got a straight up (pun accidental) case that I think really would play out close enough to identically if it was a straight guy that there's no real nuance He's an older (relatively) man who used prestige to get sex with people he had power over

It's only his defenders who are bringing up that he's gay and that the complainants are men If you didn't know who he was and you stumbled on this discourse from his critics' side you'd probably assume he's straight and they're women I think that's telling

Yeah I searched for the issue and like the first post that popped up was like "he's being disciplined for being a normal gay man" and like, again, I'm not normally with the Let's Purge the Bad Old Ways kids but I do feel like there's some... bad internalization going on there

Yeah, I mean, I don't think it's even internalized homophobia per se; Greenwald just likes the idea that he can sleep with whoever he wants and not be criticized for it.

Well this wasn't GGW posting (he blocks me). Lots of people are making this defense

I just don't see how it's homophobia if a lot of the bystanders jumping on the side of "He should be banned from campus" don't even know that he's gay

I mean some gay men will literally make the case that Gay Men Are Just Like This It's like the T**F who got really depressed because she "realized" women are completely inferior to men and will always be victims

So the argument is just criticising the bad behavior is anti gay bc it's What Gays Do It's hugely bigoted and internalized
