I mean this is just like the situation with Judith Butler's friend. She was a woman and it was a young guy, so it was Woman Power and thus okay. The entire idea of giving out "passes" on this invalidates the concept of stopping abuse that isn't male against female cishet

I mean, if this was mainly a question of whether he should be fired, and he never slept with anyone underage or currently being advised or in his class, I'd say just sternly talk to him.

That was the official policy for me as a professor (I didn't have to worry since I was in a relationship and I could just date people from a few towns over if I wasn't): don't sleep with YOUR students, but please, don't sleep with any students.

I just mean it's pretty normal for male politicians to sleep with women who work for them, I sort of internalized that based on how I and most kids my age learned what a blowjob was and what can cause stains on a dress if you catch my meaning

Yeah. I mean, before 2016 or so, it wouldn't have been treated as a big deal. Like Harvey Weinstein surviving for so long, and actresses sleeping with directors was treated like the actresses were doing something wrong.

I'd argue this was doubly true for gay men being abused by other gay men though Like the fact that the Moral Majority wanted to burn all gay people just for being gay at all meant that people were even less inclined to parse issues of consent in those contexts
