I mean I don't even agree with the premise that "it's inappropriate to wish someone dead". It's inappropriate to engage in _stochastic terrorism_, sure, but if Hitler were alive I would probably devote several hours a day to wishing he was dead

Saying "I wish [x] were dead" isn't the same as "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?", it's not a death threat, it's an expression of powerful and severe hate

I mean in a lot of languages the line between "expression of hate" and "desire to commit murder" isn't articulated clearly in translations I'm given to understand that in Farsi, "Death to America" just means "Fuck America"; it does not actually mean "Let's Kill Every American"

Replying to @Nymphomachy
Well it's like saying "Fuck America" is actually a rape threat

I mean come on we all know that "Fuck X" as an epithet refers to sexual violence ("Fuck him HARD, and SIDEWAYS"), and that it's an awkward fit with reclaiming "fuck" as a positive term ("Why on Earth would anyone fuck Trump?")
