I genuinely prefer F451 to 1984, precisely because Bradbury did not aspire to actual political commentary and his book is much more blatantly just this poetic torrent of emotionhttps://twitter.com/Nymphomachy/status/1292216858939097088 …

Yeah, it was borne of frustration with books getting less popular. He’s said on multiple occasions it’s not actually about censorship, but you were probably already aware of that.

I mean I'm gonna go against my anti-Bradbury friend group here and just broadcast this opinion -- He really did have a point about TV, and you don't have to be a cranky Republican like he was to agree with the sentiment

Put it like this -- Is there any TV show or network or studio you can say has had as *positive* an impact on our society as every single thing Fox News has done has had a *negative* impact

Arguably "Sesame Street", globally, and " Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" in the US.

Mr Rogers, of course, was, like Ray Bradbury, a cranky old Republican who hated TV Rogers said that's why he felt compelled to make a TV show, God was calling him to go into enemy territory, "because I hated it so"

I'd argue that his speech is basically the embodiment of Fred Rogers talking about how he went on TV precisely because he hated what was on TV and wanted to provide a show that was, as much as possible, the opposite of everything else on TV.

Yeah he literally says that in the speech, that he'd believes his half hour show is the only thing he can find on TV aimed at children that talks about managing and controlling anger rather than turning anger into a joke or a violent spectacle

I'm not arguing that television is, on average, good, I'm answering the very specific question posed.
