Ok so I can't sleep and I've been just going down various special interest holes& it seriously looks like if I ever made my RPGMaker game I've talked about and got enough on Kickstarter to do voice acting, I could *technically* get whatever people I got for voices into SAG-AFTRA

So... US creative unions are bad and shouldn't be the model for game unionization. People didn't like me saying this when SAG-AFTRA went on strike back when, but... it's true. Old media creative unions are more a liability for worker's rights of gaming workers than people think.

Tech guys and QA should be the first to unionize widely and globally before things get weird, but tech bros in the past couldn't be bothered and QA is on contractor deals so they can't. I'm hopeful the new wider push may help, but... "hopeful" is a bold stance these days.

...how do you get around the pay grade requirements for that? Like do you have to pay yourself the going rate?

Yes Starting a business and officially giving yourself a paycheck from the business is a major way to take advantage of many kinds of "loopholes"
