Someone really needs to not bring back Firefly, but make a space Western that is a Western in the way that the Last of Us franchise is a zombie Western - as in, less focus on "must have literal cows" and more the mythic tropes

Star Wars already was that, it even popularized the word "cantina" so much that it's now specifically associated with Star Wars

I think there's too much military stuff in Star Wars for it to be a western. A New Hope has more in common with 633 Squadron than for example High Noon.

I’m just thinking through all the civil war westerns and wondering what the hell youre talking about.

Yeah but they're not primarily set DURING the civil war. Like Outlaw Josie Wales has a montage during the credits and then it's post-war

Am thinking he must have missed the point somewhere because while there are westerns set during the civil war, almost none of them end with a decisive set piece battle (and those that do are things like Gettysburg or Glory which were already war movies).

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!!!! It’s literally the most iconic western!

Yeah but it uses the war as a backdrop. That's not the same as if it was like Full Metal Jacket except with muskets and hillbillies.

Yeah the idea of a "Western" is the whole lonely heroes on the outskirts of civilization thing, if they're actually part of the army it's not the same thing

If Star Wars was actually set in the Civil War and was about a farmboy from California running off to join the Union Army then it'd be the same idea - a movie that transitions from Western to war movie as soon as he gets in the uniform
