Which is fine, whatever It's the same as Mage completely embracing the whole trippy "Postmodern Magick" stuff

Kinda boring, though. A lot of the WoD gamelines just don't strike me as that evocative.

Idk, it's weird that WoD is so determined to make vampires, specifically, the Absolute Worst.

It left very little room to breathe.

*shrug* The Humanity meter and the Beast were an early example of "narrativist" gaming, it's the special sauce that made the game interesting

And it's something they did have to mechanically tighten the screws on over time, like in the first version of the game Golconda wasn't that hard to achieve and it wasn't hard to play it as "Vampions"

Well look it's called the World of Darkness

That's what happened with Mage, the idea of being a "mage" doesn't have anything intrinsically "dark" about it like a vampire or werewolf so it ended up just being the lighter and softer power fantasy gameline

And so to enforce thematic consistency the Revised edition gave Mage the dark backstory it should've had in the first place to be a WoD game (nuking the High Umbra and killing off the Archmages, stranding all the weaksauce adepts in the mundane world)

I am a huge apologist for Mage the Awakening and I think the nWoD tone was exactly the right choice to make for a "World of Darkness" game, and makes Mages far more sympathetic Grief and loss, a story about holding onto vestiges of what once was

The wacky cartoon "Fuck what's going on on Earth let's go have adventures in the cosmic expanse" stuff in 2e was very annoying Made the Mages very punchable Pretentious Harry Potter precursor
