Yeah, it makes ACME imperialists, Carmen is an orphan they abducted, she escapes with the help of a hacker and goes around the world stealing artifacts taken from native cultures to return them

The original bad guys aren't ACME, they're still VILE ACME is created during the course of the show's events in order to stop Carmen

I mean, ACME are still imperialists VILE are amoral monsters stealing from everyone in the world for profit, but ACME was created to oppose them by any means necessary in order to preserve the status quo Carmen ends up fighting both International Crime and International Law

It's a cool setup I don't know if they'll ever finish the arc, but as it reads right now, this show is written as a *prequel* to the situation in classic Carmen Sandiego She's going to neutralize each of VILE's council members one by one until none are left, then take over

Yeah that's why I said I don't know if they'll finish the arc this way because it's kinda dark, it implies she eventually gets corrupted

But I mean in the real, original Carmen Sandiego it actually did say that VILE started off as petty profiteers, and then Carmen took over and forced a higher purpose on them

Hence the heists all being these complex works of art intended to make a point, rather than having any practical value The 90s Where on Earth cartoon even specifically said Carmen was the world's greatest detective who had a chance to end VILE and then changed her mind

She had come to resent ACME's goal of bringing a crime-free utopia to the world and went rogue instead, turning VILE into this revolutionary prankster operation to show the world there's some things that can never be kept under lock and key

You can really see how the new show's canon is a distorted mirror of all this
