The point you seem to be missing here is that you're arguing that policies that the tories are happily implementing are left wing. Would you argue that the tories here are being left wing with their laws or are you trying to cover up the fact that you're talking shit?

I'm not arguing about Tory policies *at all*. Seriously, a bit more reading comprehension and a little less hyperbole, please: I suggested what I think is a more parsimonious explanation than Chu's to a point he made. That's all.

Okay, even if I accepted every single shitty premise you're advancing, you're now arguing that instead of the liberals all turning conservative, the conservatives somehow all turned liberal

I could just as easily turn this kind of argument on you Tons of people have tried it and it just bounces off If TERFism is such a left-wing feminist ideology, why do the actual Tories love it so much?

Your whole argument is that trans rights were a "right-wing" platform because Theresa May halfheartedly pandered to trans people for like five minutes, and you're actively gaslighting us about the history of the Tories both before and after that

ROFL. Seriously, imbecile. *HOW* is that "my whole argument" when I have never made any claim remotely like it? I never mentioned the Tories, their history or their policies, how can I be gaslighting anyone about them? You need help. Quite urgently by the look of it.

Putting aside the "right" & "left" don't mean exactly the same thing in the U.S. TERFs here were once part of the "left" - they tended to be radicals/Marxists. But we essentially kicked them out - the only political allies they have now are social conservatives on the right.

I mean it's slightly more complicated than that -- in terms of the practical, social definition of "left", yes, they hung out with "radicals" on college campuses and stuff, they were part of the left "scene"

There's a very strong argument to be made that people like Janice Raymond were always trying to sneak right-wing ideology back into the left, though Always worth remembering the author of The Transsexual Empire was a washed-out wannabe nun

Catholic analysts pointed out at the time that her beliefs were a sort of feminist-tinged take on Catholic teaching about sexuality and the sexes, just turning God the Father into the bad guy but keeping the same framework

It wasn't really that big of an ideological leap when Raymond worked with the Moral Majority on their anti-porn campaign, in many ways it was in fact a natural alliance (that Margaret Atwood openly critiqued in The Handmaid's Tale)
