They say "The youngest generation that is coming of age right now will finally save us" about EVERY GENERATION And it NEVER HAPPENS They were saying about Millennials like last fucking week and then they pivoted to "Millennials are defeatist centrists too, but not Zoomers"

They said it about the Boomers too They said it about the Boomers the MOST It was THEIR THING, they pioneered this discourse (being the first generation to fully grow up with TV and mass media since infancy)

The Flower Children, the New Youth Uprising, the Peace and Love Generation, "Talkin' Bout My Generation", "Don't trust anyone over 30" They got more of that than ANYBODY ELSE The fact that everyone bought into that is probably why they're such assholes now

Right? I'll admit to self cowing, no doubt, but the idea anyone but each other, across cohort and demo will save the rest? That's letting everyone else off the hook and collecting it all onto a smaller cohort. Which sets up a fatalistic 'Told Ya So' when they can't do it alone.

At best it comes off as the elderly begging their children to redeem them. Fuck that, it's not children's jobs to save their parents' sullied legacy.

Whatever we end up calling my infant children and their contemporaries - they're going to be the actual ones that get it and save everyone. Pretty sure.

My Boomer mother kept saying it was me and my generation’s responsibility to change things, despite the fact that she’s retired AND had more respectability and thus getting arrested for protests would have far less consequences.
-
As much as the younger generation gives me hope, pawning off fixing things into each new generation who statistically are going to be the least powerful is also just an attempt to not take any sort of responsibility. Societal problems are always everyone else’s job to fix.
