But yes if we took the idea that "Asgore is going to kill all the humans in the world out of vengeance" *at all seriously* it would be a completely different game That's the point -- I would argue it's even a game *about not taking morality seriously*

i contend that the monsters generally understand exactly what's happening and are compartmentalising like motherfuckers about it / hate humans but think you're neat and fun as a toy / consider your sacrifice to be a necessary evil and are trying to be kind to you in the meantime

I like Undertale, but I was uncomfortable with forgiving Alphys, who experimented on injured people (monsters).
